
Ugandan Authorities Arrest Over 50 Kenyan Fishermen in Lake Victoria.
Ugandan Police in Lake Victoria arrested fitty- one Kenyan fishermen from Remba island in Homa bay county over the weekend.
According to Mr. Edward Oremo the Homa bay beach management unit chairman. The fishermen were on 17 boats while crossing into the Ugandan side of lake Victoria before they were arrested by Ugandan Authorities.
“51 of our fishermen from Remba island were on Saturday night arrested by the Ugandan Authorities while on their fishing expedition,” He told media.
“we believe that the number could be more however asof the moment we can confirm 51 of our fishermen were arrested,” Oremo added.
He however stated that the matter has already been reported at Mbita Police Station for action to be taken by Kenyan authorities. The fifty one are currently being held at Lolwe Island in Uganda.
The issue of Kenyan fishermen being arrested by Ugandan Authorities is not new, several Kenyan fishermen have been arrested and detained in Uganda for crossing the border line in lake Victoria without their knowledge. Serious measures are needed to be taken two countries to end this menace that has been their for years now.
