
President Ruto Appoints Gen. Francis Ogolla As Chief of Defense.
In a statement addressed to the public president William Ruto promoted Lt. General Francis Ogolla to General rank.
In a statement to the public today afternoon President William Ruto promoted Lt. General Francis Omondi Ogolla to the General rank and further appointed him as the new chief of Defense Forces.
General Francis Ogolla will now replace the outgoing chief of Defense General Robert Kariuki Kibochi whose tenure comes to an end. Kibochi was appointed by Former President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2020 and until to his retirement he has served in the military for 44 years.
General Francis Omondi Ogolla was serving as the vice Chief of Defense Forces until his appointment as the new CDF.
Part of the statement to the public from the statehouse reads as follows.
“His Excellency Dr. William Ruto , President of the republic of Kenya and commander – in – chief of the Defense Forces , pursuant to section 9(2), (a) of the Kenya Defense Forces Act has today promoted Lieutenant General Francis Omondi Ogolla to the rank of General and appointed him chief of the Defense Forces,”
President Ruto also appointed Lieutenant General Jonah Mwangi as the vice Chief of Defense Forces replacing Gen. Ogolla. Lt. Gen. Mwangi was the vice chancellor National Defense University.
Major General Said Farah will take over as the vice chancellor National Defense University replacing Lt. Gen. Mwangi.
Several other military senior officials were promoted to different ranks as per the Kenya Defense Forces Act.
General Robert Kibochi will still serve as the Chief of Defense Forces until a hand over ceremony is conducted in accordance with the Military traditions.
