Meet the Pythons Temple where Snakes are Worshipped.
There is a python temple in Ouidah, Benin Republic where pythons are worshipped.
The pythons don’t harm humans and humans aren’t permitted to harm them. Once a week, the pythons are released to go around town to feed on rats or chickens.
While away from the temple, the pythons visit people in their homes and the people treat them as respectable guests before returning them to the temple.
The pythons are treated as important symbols and entities of the voodoo religion in Ouidah. It’s said that if one accidentally kills a python, the carcass of the python just be taken to the temple for a proper burial for the python and a cleansing for the one who killed the python.
