There are various causes of sudden drop in egg production among laying hens, they both include non infectious and infectious causes as discussed below.
High Temperature:
According to studies, when there is extreme temperature among laying hens , there is loss of weight hence this will lower the egg production pattern.
The weight of the egg will also lower, at the same time eggshell will be of poor quality.
The high temperatures also reduces how the Birds feed this may lead to digestibility for lipids and proteins.
This will cause poor production performance and health among the birds.
However farmers are advised to ensure proper ventilation especially in poultry houses, this is going to reduce much heat.
Poor Lighting:
According to experts poultry requires around fourteen hours of enough light to maintain their egg production trend.
This is reduced during winter season as there are reduced hours of daylight. However there are various strategies farmers can use.
The use of artificial lighting this is going to work the same way as daylight and encourage production of eggs among hens.
However using this strategies, the artificial lighting is placed right above the feeders and water points, there should also be less obstacles to shade light.
Poor Nutrition:
When poultries get inadequate or poor levels of Proteins, energy or calcium the level of egg production reduces.
Just like human beings, balanced diet should also be applied while feeding poultries in order to achieve good yield.
This will also reduce unnecessary diseases among egg laying hens which may cause poor production of eggs for the farmers.
